Andrea Petkovic has reached the quarterfinals of the US Open. Petko defeated Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP | WTA 76) 6-1, 6-4 and made the last eight of a Grand Slam for the third time this year after the Australian and French Open.
In a match in very windy conditions Andrea broke Suarez Navarro's serve twice in the first set and converted her first setball. In the second set things seemed to go the same way and the 23-year-old German soon lead 4-1 after two breaks. But when Andrea served for the match, Suarez Navarro showed resistance and earned her first break. The world's No. 76 caught up to 5-4 subsequently and left all fans of Petkovic nervous for a moment. Fortunately Andrea sealed the victory with the second chance and closed out the match with her third matchball.
