And it just won't stop

Having just recovered from a stress fracture in her lower back, Andrea Petkovic is suffering from the next injury. Petko had to retire against Victoria Azarenka (BLR | WTA 1) in the Round of Sixteen at the WTA-Tournament in Stuttgart because she twisted her ankle when the score was 2-6, 4-4. A CAT scan this friday will show how bad the injury really is and how long Andrea needs to pause.

Bad news for Andrea

Andrea Petkovic has to withdraw from the Australian Open due to a stress fracture in her lower back.

"I'm so disappointed", said Andrea. "I've been having some back problems for the last three or four months. I've been struggling with it, but I've always believed it was going to be fine and so I pushed through the pain. The last two weeks in Australia I've been having bigger problems. I could only play for 30 to 45 minutes without pain. After the match against Agnieszka, I decided to have an MRI and a CT and the results showed a stress fracture in my lower back."

"The only thing I can do right now is rest, not walking or sitting a lot, just lying down and hoping that the bone will heal as fast as possible." It will take the 24-year-old German about six weeks to recover from the injury.

No chance for Niculescu

Andrea Petkovic has reached the final of the WTA tournament of Beijing and is only one victory away from winning her first WTA-Premier-Mandatory-Event and her third title overall on the women's tour. The world's no. 11 defeated Monica Niculescu (ROU | WTA 57) 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinals. She also overtook Marion Bartoli (FRA | WTA 10) in the "Race to Istanbul" and is most likely to qualify for the WTA Championships 2011 in the turkish metropolis.

Andrea showed her will to win from the beginning. Although she got broken twice, she took Niculescu's serve four times and didn't leave the Romanian any chance hitting numerous winners. In the second set Petko shifted another gear up, broke Niculescu's serve three times and converted her first matchball.

In the final Andrea will face the winner of the match Flavia Penetta (ITA | WTA 26) against Agnieszka Radwanska (POL | WTA 12).
